Who is Baba Shura?
Baba is a Ukrainian name for grandmother and Shura is a diminutive shortened name for Alexandra.
Our Baba Shura loves sunflower seeds more than anything and wants to share this love with joy and a sincere heart. Every year she travels with her husband and granddaughter Marichka to the Sorochintsi fair.
Our Baba Shura has a husband who is a real owner and farmer who has devoted his life to farming. He grows high-quality sunflower seeds on his fertile fields located in the best regions of Ukraine. His fields are his pride, where every plant grows thanks to his care, experience and love for the land.
The Sorochintsy Fair is the largest folk festival in Ukraine, comparable to the Oktoberfest in Munich. Deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture, music and literature, it is unique and has been held in Sorochyntsi at the end of August since the 18th century. The symbol of this festival is a stylized image of a mill.
Coming from all over the country, people show up in their regionally different costumes and celebrate together for a week.
